Dr Danielle Buck is a Melbourne-trained complex cataract surgeon and general Ophthalmologist.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) and a member of the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Danielle grew up in the Bayside suburbs of Melbourne and completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with First Class Honours in Medicine at the University of Melbourne before relocating to Western Australia to study Medicine with Honours by Research. In Western Australia she was part of the Rural Clinical School in Albany where her passion for Ophthalmology began, and she developed an interest in Indigenous medicine working in remote Western Australia and Alice Springs. Danielle returned to Melbourne to complete her internship, residency and first years of basic physicians training at the Alfred Hospital before relocating to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) in Melbourne where she completed her Ophthalmic training. Danielle was the RVEEH Chief Registrar in 2019 and responsible for overseeing the RANZCO Victoria training network’s microsurgical training program. Danielle currently holds consultant positions at the Alfred Hospital and RVEEH and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. Danielle is a member of the Patient Safety and Clinical Quality committee at the RVEEH and maintains an interest in ophthalmology research, publishing and presenting at local and international conferences. She has a keen interest in virtual reality surgical training and techniques, and is a faculty member of GENEYE, training the next generation of eye surgeons. Danielle is a keen learner, always looking for ways to improve her surgical skills and enjoys teaching and mentoring junior trainees in cataract and general ophthalmic surgery.
Danielle’s passion is in complex and challenging cataract surgery and has a special interest in using premium intraocular lenses to match a patient’s lifestyle. She also performs Istent, pterygium, simple eyelid and chalazia surgery. Dr Buck is a general ophthalmologist who also treats age related macular degeneration, diabetic macula oedema, retinal vein occlusions with intravitreal injections, glaucoma, neuro ophthalmology and performs retinal, glaucoma (PI, SLT) and capsulotomy laser.
Danielle strives to provide patients with caring, holistic, and patient centred care, focusing on good communication and improving patient understanding and education, taking the time to explain the diagnosis and management options.
